Harvey Phlegar

Mahogany Bowl - US$86

For many years Harvey had an interest in making things from wood, taking after his father. About 10 years ago he purchased a lathe and started turning bowls. Over the years Harvey has turned about 650 bowls using almost 30 different kinds of wood. Harvey uses local Georgia native woods and also purchases exotic wood from an Atlanta lumberyard.

Harvey usually has six or seven bowls in production at any time. Turning begins with a rough cut, then sanding, followed by five or six coats of varnish. From start to finish each bowl is in production for about two weeks.

Harvey currently lives in Greensboro, GA.
